I usually start my day with a bowl of yogurt, fresh fruit, and granola on top. I used to love a particular granola brand until they were no longer gluten free. After trying so many different brands and not finding one that I loved, I decided to create my own! This gluten free granola recipe is packed with crunchy oats, nuts, and dried fruit, offering a delicious and wholesome start to your day.

Ingredients
- Gluten free oats: These are the base of this granola recipe.
- Nuts: Add more texture and crunch to the granola. I typically add a variety of unsalted nuts in to the mix. My favourite is adding cashews, hazelnuts, and pecans.
- Cinnamon: I typically add cinnamon to my granola. It gives it some warmth to the mix, and smells like oatmeal cookies when I open my granola jar to pour on my yogurt in the morning.
- Dried Fruit: I don’t typically mix this mix in up, only because I bought a giant bag of dried cranberries and I am determined to use it all.
- Sugar: I do add in some honey or maple sugar to combine everything together. It helps create the clusters and the crunch. This can be substituted using egg whites. To do this substitution, white together 3 egg whites until they are foamy, pour it over the mixture and stir to combine.
Tips for creating the perfect granola
Creating the perfect gluten free granola at home can be a delightful and rewarding experience. Here are some expert tips to ensure your granola turns out crunchy, flavorful, and just the way you like it:
- Uniform Coating: Make sure all the dry ingredients are thoroughly coated with the wet mixture. This helps achieve even baking and ensures every bite is flavorful.
- Low and Slow Baking: Bake your granola at a lower temperature, to ensure it cooks evenly without burning. Stirring occasionally helps promote even browning.
- Cool Completely: Let your granola cool completely on the baking sheet before transferring it to a storage container. This allows it to become perfectly crisp.
- Mix It Up: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different nuts, seeds, spices, and sweeteners. This keeps your granola exciting and prevents flavor fatigue.
- Batch Size: If you make large batches, consider storing the granola in multiple smaller containers to keep the portions you’re not immediately using as fresh as possible.
By following these tips, you can enjoy a consistently delicious and satisfying batch of gluten free granola that’s tailored to your taste every time.

Customizing Your Granola
Customizing gluten free granola is a fun and easy way to tailor it to your taste preferences and dietary needs. Start by experimenting with different types of nuts and seeds, such as almonds, pecans, sunflower seeds, or chia seeds, to add a variety of textures and flavors.
You can also switch up the dried fruit, using raisins, cranberries, apricots, or even dried blueberries for a sweet and chewy element. For those who prefer a different level of sweetness, try swapping honey or maple syrup with agave nectar or coconut sugar. Adding spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom can give your granola a warm, aromatic touch.
If you love a bit of indulgence, consider mixing in some chocolate chips or cocoa nibs after the granola has cooled. With endless possibilities, you can create a gluten free granola that’s uniquely yours and perfect for any occasion.
Storing
Storing your homemade gluten free granola properly will ensure it stays fresh and delicious for an extended period. Once your granola has completely cooled, transfer it to a large mason jar or a ziplock bag. Both options provide an airtight seal, which helps maintain the granola’s crunchiness and prevents it from becoming stale. Kept in a cool, dry place, your gluten free granola will stay fresh for up to a month. This makes it convenient to have a healthy and tasty breakfast or snack ready to go whenever you need it. Just scoop out a portion and enjoy it with yogurt, milk, or as a standalone treat!
