Do you walk into a farmers market and immediately smell the mini donuts and instantly get jealous that you cannot indulge? These gluten free cinnamon sugar donuts make your home smell just like you remember at the farmers market just without the mess of frying. Not only are these donuts easy to whip up, but they are baked so you can put them in the oven while you choose a movie to watch.

baking

No need to get the frying oil out, these doughnuts are baked in a donut pan. This is the donut pan I use for mini donuts and makes 12 donuts at a time. You can get other shapes and sizes but I like the smaller donuts. I have seen the silicon donut pans but have never used them. If you have, let me know how they turned out.

These donuts are truly so easy to put all the ingredients in a bowl, mix them up, fill the pan and wait until they are done! I have done this while cleaning up the kitchen after dinner and in between choosing something to watch.

I drizzled them with caramel as I had some leftover in my fridge. If you don’t have any on hand, that is okay. It is an added bonus but doesn’t need to be drizzled if you do not feel like making it.

Out of the oven

Straight of the oven you will be tempted to eat a couple of them… but wait just a second. They will get even better! I take these gluten free donuts out of the pan and put them onto a rack to slightly cool to touch. Once they are cool enough to touch, but still hot, you will toss them in cinnamon sugar mixture. You could also toss them in powdered sugar instead however I prefer the cinnamon sugar as it is less messy to eat. I topped mine with a drizzle of salted caramel to bring the whole donut together.

storage

Is storage even an option or will you eat them all before there is anything left to store? This recipe does make a lot of cinnamon sugar donuts especially if there is only two people eating them like my husband and I, so there are usually leftovers. I box them in an airtight container to eat the next day. You can either eat them as is – still very delicious. Or the way I prefer is heating them slightly in the air fryer! They become hot again and just like they were the night before.

If you know you are going to have a lot of leftovers I would hold off on cinnamon sugaring all of them as you can do that as soon as they get out of the air fryer. These doughnuts in the air fryer will be warm, and crisp up again. It is not necessary, but a simple set for a warm day old, doughnut.

  • Melt the butter in the microwave in a bowl.
    2 tbsp melted butter
  • Mix all the dry ingredients together.
2 Cups Bob’s Red Mill 1-1 Gluten Free Flour, 1 1/2 cups white sugar, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp salt
